Local Competition

What competitions do you run?

Canterbury Touch Association runs both a Junior and Senior competition each year.

The Junior Competition is open to all playing abilities and starts at Under 7’s all the way up to Under 15′ and 17’s in our Youth division. It is a fun, family-based atmosphere on a Sunday morning where teamwork and development is encouraged, We are lucky enough to have a wonderful group of ex-representative players and coaches available to assist junior players, with many of our members now having kids themselves and keen to give something back to our Club and the community. Junior players can register as a team or as an individual looking to join a team via our easy registration process. The Junior Competition typically runs from Term 3 of the school year (early September) through to Term 4 (late November / early December). During the competition, junior players looking to make the transition to our representative Canterbury Bulldogs teams will have an opportunity to trial for selection.

Our Senior Competition is on Wednesday nights starting in late March / early April and finishing in June/July. It has 3 levels of participation typically available, which are:

  • Jade Cup (Competitive Level) – our elite A-grade tournament at Canterbury, suitable for representative level players and those players looking to challenge themselves. It is a 6-a-side format for players turning 15 and above in the year of the competition. The Jade Cup is the primary opportunity representative players have to become eligible to play for the Canterbury Bulldogs in Vawdon Cup and State Cup Under 20, Opens and Senior age teams. Individual players will nominate for the Jade Cup via the Player Pool and will be placed into a team via the Club draft process. This ensures a mix of playing capability across the teams and ensures we have highly competitive games each week. To ensure a high standard and in the interest of fairness, should players register into the Jade Cup but not be at the standard expected of a competitive or representative player, they will be asked to join a team in the Mixed Social Comp (where possible).
  • Youth Skills Clinics – skills and development clinics run by our respresentative coaches and players for girls and boys turning 10 to 16. These sessions will involve touch specific drills, fitness and development, with a mix of coaching and game-play. Monitor our social media for details about when and where these sessions will be held throughout the Senior Competition season.
  • Steggles Cup (Mixed Social Comp) – suitable for all players turning 13 and above in the year of the competition who are not playing at a Open’s or Senior representative level (e.g. Premier League, Men’s/Women’s Divisional or Mixed Opens). Our social comp is a 6-a-side mixed format requiring at least 2 females to be on the field at all times. The social comp is intended to provide a place on the field for all playing abilities, including players new to the sport of touch football, those who just want to play for fitness and enjoyment, or even family-based teams. The standard would typically be considered B or C grade at other park competitions. This division is offered where team numbers and interest is great enough to enable a good competition.

During our Senior Competition, players looking to join representative teams for the Canterbury Bulldogs will have the opportunity to trial for selection.

How much does it cost?

Junior Competition registration fees are typically $100 per season, which includes: playing fees, insurance, referee match payments, equipment and a playing shirt.

Active Kids vouchers can be applied to offset this cost via our registration process where eligible.

Jade Cup and Steggles Cup registration fees for senior players are typically $100 or less per season. Youth Skills Clinics are typically free.

We are a not-for-profit association run by unpaid volunteers, and we are committed to keeping these necessary costs as low as possible.

Players are notified that for the first registration process each year, a Touch Football Australia individual membership fee is payable.
